There are plenty of antique shops with one-of-a-kinds and bargains. Whether you are looking for vintage clothing, gifts, or art Petersburg has it.

History

Petersburg is steeped in history and continues to evolve throughout the years. Having played significant roles in Colonial history, the Revolutionary War, and the War of 1812 the city is still most recognized for its part during the Civil War. Take your own driving tour and follow the history of the longest military event during the Siege of Petersburg or visit Petersburg’s National Battlefield and take a walking tour to explore the terrain in detail.

It is also home to one of the oldest African-American communities in the United States. The town holds connections to slave rebellions and the Underground Railroad.

The city has seen devastating fires, war, economic decline, and other unfortunate turmoil. Despite its challenges, the city continues to thrive and push forward to improvements and innovation.

Recreation & Relaxation

Walking tours of the city is a great way to get to know the streets and buildings more intimately. Stop at the Centre Hill Mansion Museum that was featured in the movie Lincoln or walk Petersburg’s terrain at the Petersburg National Battlefield.
